Tell us a little bit about yourself (i.e. where are you from, where’d you go to school, what you do for a living, etc.)
I am a life long resident of Cincinnati’s west side. I graduated from Elder High School in 2008 and the University of Cincinnati in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. I am currently entering my 5th year at Aiken High School where I teach students with Autism. I am the proud father of twins and am engaged to my life partner, Yula Nzioki. My family and I reside in West Price Hill and enjoy hanging out with friends and family in our free time!
Why are you running for this office?
I decided to run for public office because I am extremely concerned about the direction of public education in our state. For the past several years, there has been a continuous assault on traditional public-school districts in our state as well as the unions that operate in them. The rise of the Charter School movement in our state, designed and championed by Republican State Legislators and Governor Kasich, has proven to be a failure for Ohio students. I am running for office in hopes of reforming our education system here in Ohio and making sure our state government is properly investing in our student’s future.
What are the most important issues on your campaign?
Infrastructure and investment on Cincinnati’s west side is lacking. Fixing the Western Hills Viaduct is a top priority for my campaign because it is a crucial piece of infrastructure for the west side of Cincinnati. Our city and county governments are invested in fixing this bridge, yet the support from the state government is non-existent. If elected, my top priority would investing a small portion of the state’s rainy-day fund to fixing the Western Hills Viaduct which would provide much safer travel for Cincinnatians.
Give us a fun fact about yourself.
In 2007, I played the video game “Gears of War” semi-professionally. I was a part of a four-person team that would travel to various gaming tournaments across the state in hopes of winning money. We were a top-ten team in every gaming tournament we played in, but unfortunately never placed 1st.
What’s your favorite thing about Ohio?
We are blessed in Ohio for having many strong universities and the University of Cincinnati will forever hold a special place in my heart. Additionally, I am huge fan of all things Cincinnati.
Which team is your favorite sports team? If there’s a fun reason why, tell us!
I am an avid Cincinnati Bearcat Basketball fan. Attending UC basketball games is a great way to spend time and catch up with friends you may have not seen in a while!
If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song?
Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash
What TV show have you binge watched entirely too fast?
Narcos on Netflix
If you were an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in?
Long Distance Running (I briefly ran Cross Country in high school)
Most importantly, how can young Dems help in your campaign?
Spreading the word and voting are the easiest ways young Democrats can help candidates up and down the ballot. Knocking on doors and making phone calls, particularly during the GOTV effort would be a tremendous help!
