Danny O’Connor for Congress

Tell us a little bit about yourself
I was born and raised in Sidney, Ohio. I went to Wright State University, then spent a year in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps as a legal advocate. I attended law school at Syracuse. After graduation, I worked for the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, and then I started my own small law practice. In 2016, I was elected Franklin County Recorder, where I manage 54 employees and work every day to institute reforms that help homeowners, veterans, and the homeless.

Why are you running for this office?
I am running for US Congress because I believe that we need new leadership that will fight for the hardworking men and women of Ohio. As a small business owner, and the son of a breast cancer survivor, and a reformer who has worked to fix what’s broken in government, I am running for Congress to create more economic opportunities for working families and small business owners here in Ohio. I’m running to expand healthcare coverage, protect Medicare and Social Security benefits. I’m running to help end the partisan dysfunction and bring new solutions and leadership to Washington, to speak on behalf of the men, women, and families of central Ohio.

What are the most important issues on your campaign?
Expanding healthcare coverage and protecting the coverage that exists, including Medicare and Medicaid, is something I will continuously fight for. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was in college, and thanks to good insurance and access to new, improved drugs, she was able to afford the life-saving care she needed, and is happy and healthy today. I want every Ohioan to have that same ability, so they can have that same outcome.

Here in Ohio, we need an economy that works for everybody. That means bringing jobs back to Ohio, protecting our workers, and investing in new technologies to create and sustain jobs for the future. We need to provide economic opportunities such as job trainings and internships so that the hardworking men and women of Ohio can grow and support their families.

I also believe we need new leadership in Washington, on both sides of the aisle. Too many politicians are beholden to wealthy corporate donors. That’s why I’ve pledged not to take a dime of corporate PAC money, so that we can get to work for the people, and not for special interest groups.

Give us a fun fact about yourself.
Growing up, I had a three-legged dog named Seamus.
