Get to Know Drew Reilly
Name: Drew Reilly
Office you’re seeking: Ward 1 City Council, Cuyahoga Falls
Are you an incumbent? Yes, I was first elected in 2017
Tell us a little bit about yourself (i.e. where are you from, where’d you go to school, what you do for a living, etc.)
I am originally from the Village of Mogadore. I graduated from Mogadore High School in 2008, attended Southeast Missouri State University for undergrad, where I received a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.S. in Political Science. After working in Washington DC, with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), I moved back to Northeast Ohio. I attended the University of Akron School of Law, where I graduated with a J.D. in 2017, I also passed the Ohio Bar in 2017, and was admitted to practice before the Federal Immigration Court in 2018.
Why are you running for this office?
I have always felt that government should be a force for good, and public service has always been instilled in me. Both my parents and my wife are all public school teachers, and I feel that public service is something we should all strive to do.
What are the most important issues on your campaign?
Cuyahoga Falls has the advantage of having high energy being put into the development of our downtown. Having said that, it is important that the neighborhoods are not forgotten. I represent a mostly residential area where citizens are afraid that the focus on developing our downtown will lead to the detriment of our neighborhoods. So, any way we can increase infrastructure funding and raise properties values are major issues for Ward 1 residents.
But the most important issue is to have a Councilperson who is visible and knows the neighborhood. At the local level, people want to know their elected officials on a personal level. We can only do this by being accessible and available.
Give us a fun fact about yourself.
My wife and I just had our first child on August 5, 2019. Jameson Patrick Reilly!
I am avid reader, I have already read 80 books this year.
What’s your favorite thing about Ohio?
Family is a major part of my life. Having lived in Missouri and Washington, DC, I decided that it was important for me to be near those who are most important to me. Further, Ohio (and specifically Northeast Ohio) has given me so many opportunities to succeed that I feel it is my job to reinvest and increase the number of opportunities for the next generation of Ohioans.
Which team is your favorite sports team? If there’s a fun reason why, tell us!
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians!
If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song?
I've been on a big Springsteen kick this past year, so I would have to go with "Born to Run"
What TV show have you binge watched entirely too fast?
I recently binge watched Carnival Row on Amazon Prime in less than a week. But I have been known to binge watch The Last Kingdom on Netflix as well. The only thing that stops me from binge watching Better Call Saul is that AMC still adheres to the age old doctrine of releasing one episode a week.
If you were an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in?
I used to run the 800 meters in high school, but I am a fan of team sports, so I will have to go with the 4x800 relay.
Most importantly, how can young Dems help in your campaign?
Be available and let me know where there are opportunities for me to get to know other YDs in Northeast Ohio. We should be recruiting more candidates that are our age.

Side note: We'll be blunt - campaigns cost money. Even if you're not on the ballot, the people running this November are going to have direct impact on your lives, so we're doing everything we can to make sure this impact starts with Young Dems. Can you chip in $5 to help us fund our campaign?
