Tell us a little bit about yourself (i.e. where are you from, where’d you go to school, what you do for a living, etc.)
I grew up in the Toledo area and am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Disability Studies at the University of Toledo. I have built my career in leadership roles with various non-profit organizations, and currently serves as the Director of Strategic Engagement for The Ability Center of Toledo.

Why are you running for this office?
I’m running for City Council because I love our city. When you love something you step up, you fight for it, and do whatever it takes to make it better. I’m running for City Council to serve my neighbors and work hard on their behalf. To return their phone call, and address their concerns quickly and effectively. When we work together we can move Toledo forward, not only for our children, but for our grandchildren too. And that’s certainly something worth fighting for.

What are the most important issues on your campaign?
This campaign is about investing in safe, strong, sustainable neighborhoods. Neighborhoods are the heart and soul of our city, and when people go home to their neighborhood, they should feel a sense of pride in where they live.

Neighborhoods should be safe — safe from gun violence and the opioid epidemic, safe for children crossing streets. Guaranteed safe, clean drinking water for all. A sense of security in neighbors take care of each other.

Neighborhoods should be strong — investments in infrastructure and public education to keep Toledo vibrant for years to come. Long-term plans that promote sustainable economic development, strong parks, and a sense of identity.

Neighborhoods should be sustainable — our best intentions mean nothing if actions we take now aren’t future proof. Managing government to provide a better return on investment for tax payers, protecting the things that make Toledo a great place to live, and innovating new ways to adapt to changing technology and economic conditions.

Give us a fun fact about yourself.

  • I had a perfect attendance record from K-12.
  • We have a cat named Rocky, after my favorite movie.
  • I have been one of the organizers TedxToledo for the past 7 years. The event happens every September.
  • My only Hole-In-One was shot at Ottawa Park which is my favorite course. (Hole 5)
  • I sometimes plays guitar and sings at my church, Trinity Episcopal.

What’s your favorite thing about Ohio?
This is going to sound strange... but I think it might be the weather. I really love and appreciate the seasons. We get the full spectrum of weather and life outdoors in our region, and I really appreciate that. I like raising my children in a place where we can see the leaves and snow fall, and be so close to the Great Lakes.

Which team is your favorite sports team? If there’s a fun reason why, tell us!
Well, I love football and I grew up in the 90’s. That means many of my friends were Cowboys fans, and it just stuck. It’s been a long 20+ years of losing, but many, those mid-90’s teams were great!

If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song?
I would just hit shuffle on the Rocky soundtrack. Anything that comes up, is fine.

What TV show have you binge watched entirely too fast?
Lindsey and I didn’t waste any time with this past season of Stranger Things. It was so good though!

If you were an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in?
Golf? Did they get golf in the Olympics yet? I think they did...

Most importantly, how can young Dems help in your campaign?
You won’t be surprised to hear this: knocking doors and talking to voters! Come up to

Toledo and canvass with us, or make calls from wherever you are, but help us talk to voters!

Side note: We'll be blunt - campaigns cost money. Even if you're not on the ballot, the people running this November are going to have direct impact on your lives, so we're doing everything we can to make sure this impact starts with Young Dems. Can you chip in $5 to help us fund our campaign?
