Ohio Young Democrats to Host First EVER Virtual Convention on May 16, 2020
The OYD executive board recently voted to change our 2020 Convention location and format. We did not make this decision lightly, as we know how valuable it is for us all to get together in person. However, your health and safety is our #1 priority. With each passing day, it appears to be less and less likely that we will be able to safely gather together in mid-May.
We are excited to announce OYD's FIRST EVER virtual convention! Our 2020 Convention will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2020. We'll share a draft of the agenda later on this page this month but here's what you need to know:
We'll kick things off at 10am and then we will have virtual breakout rooms for trainings* all morning!
Our convention general session will kick off promptly at 1:00pm**. We're working on securing some awesome guest speakers for all of our attendees to hear from. We'll also go over some updates on what OYD leaders have been working on, our plans to organize young voters amid COVID-19, and much more.
After these updates, we'll conduct our officer elections. This year, we will elect officers to two-year terms for the following positions on our executive board:
-Vice President of Chapter Building
- YDA National Committee Members (2 individuals who must not be of the same gender identity)
Elections will be the end of our official convention business. However, after our elections, we're planning to do something fun for those interested in sticking around (i.e. we're doing out best to replicate the entire OYD convention experience that people have each year).
Convention attendees must register to get the access/log-in information for the convention. There is no cost to attend our virtual convention! But this time, you'll have to bring your own lunch (obviously).
While we love our Young-At-Heart Dem supporters (those 40+), we are asking them to refrain from joining us unless they are invited to speak.
If you're a chapter leader, you'll soon be hearing from our Membership Secretary, Mike Bill, about how to recharter with OYD for convention and for the coming year. As soon as that information has been shared, we'll cross post it here.
*Have a training you'd like to see on the agenda? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know.
**1pm is also when we'll do the official count of chapter members present for our officer election purposes.
