Get to Know 2016 Endorsed Candidate Alex Wendt

Name: Alex Wendt Wendt

Office you’re seeking: State Representative, 79th House District

Age: 28

Twitter handle: @AlexWendtOH

Why are you running? My dad and grandparents immigrated to Springfield in search of opportunity after leaving the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Through hard work and determination, they were able to make it.

I’m running for State Rep. to ensure that the same opportunity exists for the next generation of people seeking the American Dream and because working families in the 79th District need an advocate.

What are the most important issues on your campaign? Every day, people in my District get up, work hard, and can’t seem to get ahead, and the government hasn’t responded to the issues our families face. We need to restore local government funding to protect our families and create a good quality of life—without taking more money out of the pockets everyday people. We need to focus on good-paying jobs and common-sense solutions, like pay equity for women, affordable college, and paid family leave.

Give us a fun fact about yourself. I have two dogs: Sarge, a Weimaraner, and Chester, a dog that my wife and I adopted after the fire department I work for rescued him from a river in Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve.

Who is your favorite president? Why?  Lincoln. His recognition that our nation is not perfect, but a work in progress, still resonates. It takes work to ensure that our nation, conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, lives up to its highest ideals and moral principles.

What’s your favorite food on the campaign trail? Why? We have a couple of great, local sandwich shops in Springfield that I’ve been known to frequent.

If you could be a superhero, who would you be? Why? Batman. He relies on strength, intelligence, and trusted friends to protect the public, and shows resiliency in the face of adversity.

If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song? “Electric Feel” by MGMT

What was your first paid job? I worked at a dry cleaner’s when I was in high school.

How can young dems help in your race?   Our campaign’s success relies on personally reaching out to voters across the District—by phone and by knocking on thousands of doors. Come join us for a phone bank or a canvass, it’s a lot of fun! Email my campaign manager, Corissa, at[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
