Get to Know Brigid Kelly
Name: Brigid Kelly
Office you’re seeking: State Representative, OH-31
Twitter handle: @brigidekelly
Why are you running? Because supporting a family is getting harder, not easier. I’ve worked for United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) for over ten years. Every day, we fight our members, and all of the hard-working men and women in our community, through higher wages, affordable health care benefits, safe places to work, paid sick time, and family leave. I want to continue the work of helping to create more opportunities for better lives for people who live in our district
What are the most important issues on your campaign? We’ve spoken with thousands of voters, who most frequently mention good public schools, strong and safe neighborhoods, and greater opportunity for members of our community. As State Rep, I’ll work to invest in quality public education, bridge the gap in local government funding, and fight for family sustaining wages, and paid sick and family leave.
Give us a fun fact about yourself. I’ve run four marathons.
What is your favorite campaign memory? My favorite campaign was for John Kerry in 2004. Although the race certainly didn’t turn out how we wanted, it was the first presidential election where I spent a substantial amount of time campaigning, and was when I got more deeply involved in OYD. Many of the people with whom I developed relationships with during that campaign are still my friends today, and are still committed to electing people who will make our state and our country even better.
What’s your favorite food on the campaign trail? Why? Between the primary and general election campaigns, I think I’ll have consumed more donuts than in the rest of my life combined. And Diet Coke. Lots of Diet Coke.
If you could be a superhero, who would you be? Why? Batman. The Batmobile would be an unforgettable parade entry.
If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song? “Run the World” by Beyonce
What was your first paid job? I had a small babysitting empire in my hometown of Norwood beginning in eighth grade.
