Get to Know 2017 Endorsed Candidate ... Frankie DiCarlantonio
Why are you running?
Being in the business and community service fields as a young professional, I see the many needs that our community has. I am running for Mayor to bring a young and fresh perspective to the City of Steubenville.
What are the most important issues on your campaign?
The biggest issue that I am working on is to make Steubenville a business-friendly city. Being in an area where it makes little to no difference to locate in another city, or even in another state since we border West Virginia, we need to be competitive and make it easy for businesses to locate in our town. Plain and simple: the more businesses, the more tax dollars that we have as a city. Other issues include protecting citizen services such as our safety forces, parks and recreation, street improvements, and so much more - some of which that have seen cuts in recent years both due to decreased revenue and the cuts in the state’s Local Government Fund.
Give us a fun fact about yourself.
I have a 42 pound cat at home named “Fudge.”
What’s your favorite food on the campaign trail? Why?
Running my family’s Italian Restaurant and being a third generation Italian-American, my frequent go to is a plate of spaghetti with marinara sauce. I mean, can you have a last name of DiCarlantonio and your favorite food not be Italian?
If you could be a superhero, who would you be? Why?
I’ll be honest, I put some research into this one. I came up with Captain Marvel. According to a website that I read, whenever he utters the phrase “shazam” it is because he has a list of powers that include: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury. I like all of that because he is versatile and in my belief, all of the characteristics above I find great for a public official in office. Plus, who doesn’t love a good acronym?
What was your first paid job?
I began working at the age of 14 in my family’s restaurant whenever they first opened here in Steubenville.
How can young dems help in your race?
Anything from a small donation to getting in touch with my campaign for you or your Young Dems chapter to help with voter contact, whether it be door to door canvassing or hopping on our phone banks wherever you are throughout the state!
