Office you’re seeking: State Representative, Ohio House District 55
Twitter handle: @KKM4OhioHouse
Why are you running? When I answer this question I have to stop and take a breath. I think of all of the stories that I have heard from friends, neighbors, strangers about the struggles in their lives that were keeping them from getting ahead. I think about taking a dream I had from my Junior Girl Scout experience and trips to State Houses and The Capital to task. I think about working through successes and struggle in my own family. I am running for State Representative and bring my experience to Columbus for the people of the 55th district. Right now, we need someone to bring solutions to Columbus, drive action, and work hard for Ohioans and the future of our great state.
What are the most important issues on your campaign? The top issues for me are what a lot of families are concerned about and are ready to be represented in Columbus good paying jobs to help us get our area on growth rates similar to the national average, strong schools for our children from early childhood through higher education, and accountability to take action on where we need to reduce struggle and increase solutions.
Give us a fun fact about yourself. In the summer of 2010 I challenged myself to ride my bike to any destination within 2 miles of my house. I learned a lot from how to transport groceries to concern that we better balance on our roadways for our safety and our health.
Who is your favorite president? Why? President Bill Clinton is my favorite. I admire, and am most thankful for, his plan to help working families build strong families from the start. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) provided me time to take with my sons before heading back to work. It secured my job at my return. This helps so many families and has encouraged business to offer a variety of benefits to cover partial or all of the time off with pay. A standard we need in all professions. FMLA has helped so many people with job security at scary times in their lives, whether leave was needed for illness, injury, maternity leave or to help a family member with their health issue. We need to do more to help new families and families with young children with a strong start in Ohio.
President Clinton also worked to establish the State Children's Health Insurance Plan bringing states funding to cover uninsured children in low-income families. A huge win to expand publicly funded healthcare to hundreds of thousands of families in Ohio, alone, even to my nieces and nephews when they needed it.
What’s your favorite food on the campaign trail? Why? My favorite food on the campaign trail is really a drink. I love kombucha! Booch is keeping my campaign manager, Joe, and I going and doing it as healthily as we possibly can. That reminds me, I really have to brew another batch and order some bone broth, too. Bone broth is the food that is a necessity to me in this amazing balancing act that is family life, work balance, and the campaign trail.
If you could be a superhero, who would you be? Why? I would be Captain Marvel she fights for rights through turmoil and adversity and has some good powers of energy absorption and tossing concussive blasts. https://youtu.be/vYzww36x4Io
If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song? My walk out song would be Demi Lovato’s “Confident.” How amazing that would be?!
What was your first paid job? My first paid job was at a small mortgage branch my senior year of high school. I did a work study program to wrap up my education at North Olmsted High School. I worked reception and special projects for the owner.
How can young dems help in your race? Helping me to win our seat back in the House will help you reach your goals, too. Hit the pavement, get the word out, pick up that phone, and make a contribution will help me to reach over 80,000 voters which will bring you great experience and help make real change for Ohio. And, who will meet up and sing Fight Song with me? I have to do this before Election Day, but I need a nice big group ready to bring Ohio Together![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
