Get to Know 2017 Endorsed Candidate ... Megan Kilgore

Name: Megan Kilgore
Office you’re seeking: Columbus City Auditor
Are you an incumbent? No
Age: 35
Twitter: @Kilgore_Auditor

Why are you running?

Since I was in college, I’ve met so many people who dedicated their lives to public service. Columbus is an amazing city and it has done so much for me, I want to give back. There is nothing more fulfilling than giving back to the community that helped make you who you are. And I happened to learn from one of the best. My mentor, Hugh J. Dorrian for whom I worked for 11 years.

What are the most important issues on your campaign?

Population growth. It’s a good problem to have because it means Columbus is thriving. However, we must proactively manage for increasing populations so that our infrastructure (e.g. water and sewer systems, roadways, etc.) can remain well-maintained while keeping utility user-rate increases to low levels.

Megan's St. Bernard puppy, Brooklyn.

Give us a fun fact about yourself.

I have a Saint Bernard! She’s easily the cutest campaign assistant.

Who is your favorite president? Why?

Lincoln. Transcendent orator and author. A Champion of our country’s endurance through tough times and a visionary for the future.

What’s your favorite food on the campaign trail?  Why?

Clif Bars! Always in the bag – and they taste just as good when squished from travel.

If you could be a superhero, who would you be?  Why?

Probably Batman. Because he has zero super powers: he’s human and yet he still manages to save the world.

If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song?

Likely a song from Beyonce – that’s usually my go-to pep music.

What was your first paid job?

Two, during my first summer of work I worked as a reference librarian at my county library and as a summer employee at the local municipal pool. I love public service!

How can young dems help in your race?

Knock doors, phone bank, share social media posts, wear our comfy t-shirts to community events and most importantly, just stay involved. What you do matters so much.
