Get to Know 2016 YD Candidate … Tommy Greene

Tommy Greene

 Name: Tommy Greene

Office you’re seeking: State Representative for Ohio’s 16th House District

Age: 28

Twitter handle: @tommyforohio

Why are you running? I’m the son of a former steelworker and a teacher’s aide. When I was young, my dad lost his job just before retirement when the mill went under. I’m running because I believe regular, working families – families like my own – need an advocate in the Statehouse. I was born and raised in the 16th House District and came back to serve my community.

What are the most important issues on your campaign?   When I get up everyday, I think about how I can best serve my community. When I get to Columbus, I’m going to fight for equal pay for equal work and paid family leave, a jobs plan that reinvests in Ohio’s manufacturing centers, and a gradual increase in the minimum wage so hard work pays.

Give us a fun fact about yourself. I love playing beach volleyball at Whiskey Island in Cleveland.

Who is your favorite president? Why? My favorite former president is FDR. Through the New Deal and his administration’s many efforts to improve the economy, FDR lifted countless people out of poverty and helped create the greatest middle class in modern history. FDR set the Democratic Party firmly on the side of working people.

What is your favorite food on the campaign trail? My favorite food on the campaign trail are fruit snacks because they are guilt-free tasty treats! The challenge is stopping after one pack.

If you could be a superhero, who would you be? Why? If I could be a superhero, I would be Superman. Superman is a classic hero who always went above and beyond to protect and support his community. By the way, he was also created in Cleveland, Ohio!

If you were a professional athlete what song would you choose to be your “walk out” song? “All I Do is Win” by DJ Khaled or “All the Way Up” by Fat Joe and Remy Ma

What was your first paid job? My first paid job was in 8th grade working for Malley’s Chocolates in Bay Village scooping ice cream. To this day, ice cream is my favorite dessert.

How can young dems help in your race?   Young Dems can help in this race by talking to their friends, families, and neighbors in the 16th House District about the importance of electing a progressive young Democrat to the statehouse. You can sign up to volunteer at our website, or by contacting Shannon at I need every young Dem at my side. Come knock with me – we’ll have fun.

Come canvass with OYD in support of Tommy's campaign on Saturday, October 15th.  RSVP and get the details HERE.
